Gardening with my Gay Best Friend in Pet Society

June 8, 2009: Update on Gardens: Since Playfish added the garden rooms in Pet Society, the following post, which first appeared in December 2008, is good only for laughs and archival purposes. See how we used to make gardens way back when…
———-

I like men. Especially gay men, because many of them are into the same things that I am: art, fashion and disco. So it’s natural that Sushi now has a gay best friend in Pet Society: Clemmie.

Clemmie first caught my attention with his unique sense of style. Check out his outfit. Not everyone can wear a tire and pail with such panache:

Only a cute gay pet can turn junk into fashion.

Tire and a bucket: Only a cute gay pet can turn junk into fashion.

Perhaps Clemmie is trying to appear butch by choosing stuff that you’d find at a gas station, but he’s really out and proud in Pet Society. Notice the rainbow armband!

He’s also got a great garden. That’s right, a garden. Instead of filling up another room with furniture, Clemmie made it seem like we’re outside his house. Look how he covered the wall with brick and used the simple shelves to create steps below the door.

Not sure what to do with that Christmas tree now that the holidays are over? Don’t sell it yet; plant it in the garden and let it provide shade for a picnic on the lawn.

The garden also gives us a solution to pet poo. I am shocked by how people have been displaying their poop like trophies, but the garden is the perfect place to store your sh*t.

Put your poo in the garden, not the parlor.

Put your poo in the garden, not the parlor.

Pet Society is much like early MySpace in that it’s filled with visual clutter (e.g. Pink Walls + Orange Couch = Bad Taste), but Clemmie’s house is an example of beautiful and clever design. As you can guess, it turns out that the player behind the pet is a designer and art buff in real life. Here what he has to say about Pet Society:

“I absolutely LOVE decorating the place for my pet. I love decorating my apartment in real life and buying whimsical stuff. But being a poor recent college graduate, I can’t really decorate my apartment to the extent I wish, so in a way, Pet Society satisfies my fantasies.”

I hate to stereotype, but there you have it from the gay decorator. If any of you are planning a house make-over, let Clemmie guide you.

On a final note, I just came back from a holiday break to find a bunch of comments in my blog and Christmas gifts for my pet. Thanks to all you readers for keeping this blog alive. A warm thanks also to Ms. Brown Eyes in England for sending me so many presents. My pet was practically buried in gifts. Yippee! Happy New Year, everyone! Hope 2009 brings you lots of joy, love and golden poo!

Thanks, Santa!

I was inspired by this and made my own garden once I got another room. I’ve seen several people use the shelf trick to make stairs and I think it’s fabulous. Making the garden was expensive, though. I had to save up!

I designed an outdoor garden space for my pet Bradbury too, although it’s more of a patio garden. I used the flagstone floor, and the starry wallpaper (yes, it’s always nighttime on my pet’s deck) and then loaded it up with trees and potted plants. Fun!

Georgia – I couldn’t find you on FB. Too many people with the same name.

ABW & HT – Very cool! Since I posted this, I’ve stumbled across more gardens. It’s great how creative some people can get. The starry wallpaper is a good idea!

So, how do you add screenshots do your wordpress blog? Do you use the normal Windows way, or do you have a software.

      Hi Petsocietyguide,

I take the screenshot using Alt + PrtScn. Then I paste the screenshot in Photoshop. I sometimes edit the image in Photoshop, such as getting rid of some of the icons to reduce visual clutter on my blog. Lately, I’ve been adding watermarks and captions within the images. When I’m done, I save the image as a .JPG file. Then upload the image onto WordPress.

    Hey pet society anonymous,
could you ask your friend if he could maybe help me make my hose more, shall we say, stylish?
I am an atrocious designer and always spend my money on small things that cost a fortune.
    Thanks!
