By now, you must have heard that you can go fishing in Pet Society. Exciting! But fishing is not easy. In fact, I felt like a real dummy as my pet cast his rod again and again, only to see the fish escaping with his bait. Like the hurdle races at the stadium, catching a fish takes practice.
Tips for Catching Fish in Pet Society:
- First, read the directions below the pond.
- When you receive a bite, click and hold your pet to start reeling in the fish. You’ll know you have a bite when there is a splash in the water.
- Release a little when the fish struggles. You’ll know the fish is struggling when there are bubbles in the water and your pet scrunches his/her face.
- Do not fight with the fish. Be zen about this. Let go for a moment until the water is calm. Then click again and reel the fish in.
- The fish will struggle a couple more times. Repeat steps 3-4 as you reel the fish closer toward you.
- Different food items will attract different types of fish. Since you might not catch a fish the first time around, try practicing with cheap items (banana, apple, corn, etc.) until you master the skill. See part 2 of this post for a list of bait and fish.
Remember, do not fight with the fish. If you try too hard, the fish will go away. Hmm, that sounds like classic dating advice. The fish will only stay hooked if you pretend every once in a while that you don’t want it!
Once the fish is caught, it can only be stored in your chest or in an aquarium. Aquariums are available at the Garden Store. As of July 24, 2009, fish cannot be eaten by your pets. They are just for decoration. Since it will take some time to fill up the aquarium, I stuffed it with other kinds of things in my chest. The mochi ball actually bounces within the tank.

i used strawberry donut as bait. then it caught a strawberry donut fish!
I think it’s different for everyone. It’s not the same every time.
I tried the 100 coins bone to get a puppy fish but I just got another starfish. I never even spend that much on food for my pet so I was kind of pissed about blowing 100 coins on that.
I’ve used the 6 coin brown bone 3 or 4 times and only one of the times I used it, I got a starfish. The rest of the time I used it I only got cans or a shoe or a bike tire.
I did get a fish when I used a cupcake, but I only did it once so who knows if I’ll get another one again.
Most of the time, I used fruits and vegetables and only got junk except for a starfish one time. I think it’s just kind of like winning the lottery and the more expensive the food, the more likely you are to get a fish.
I was wondering though… since we can’t sell the junk we get, what do we do with it? Can we reuse it anywhere or do we only get to keep it as decoration?
I used a coconut and got a fish each time: Altum Angelfish, Clownfish, and a Sardine. My first cast was an apple and I got a Clownfish that time too. Using various 5-7 coin (and 1 meatball) foods I got a soda can, an old boot, a broken pot, and a Silver Arowana fish; I’m didn’t catch which thing the meatball got. Lastly I bought a 40coin Strawberry Soft serve and got a message in a bottle.
Alex: about the junk, other than decoration all the junk I got (can,boot,broken pot,message in a bottle) each could recycle for 10 recycle points.

and I got a dogfish, a blue ram and a shrimp, which I recicled them for 30 points each!!!

i really want the loveroot fish, crab, lobster, altum angelfish but i cant seem to be getting them! when i use a cupcake i continuestly get the purple starfish and i must have about 5 – 6 of them now! I’ve used the heart shaped cake for 250 coins from the food shop and many other high priced items to get them fishes. It is Seriously annoying now!
Anyone who has them fishes, what type of food did you use to get the fishes?

i also think it doesn’t really depend on the food. I tried many many cheap veggie/fruit items as bait (like EVERYTHING) and got all sorts of junk but also fish, sea urchins and squid.
I used a 120 bucks pizza (and neva spend that much money on my pet to feed it), was really excited what i’d get and I got a boring starfish (already had caught 3 with cheap bait). I was pretty annoyed having spent that much money on a starfish when I got more exciting fish with cheap foodstuff-bait.
So far I’ve got 2 kinds of fish (grey/brown/blue one an a purple one), a sword-fish/marlin, squid, crab, seaweed, empty bottles, old shoes, shells, cans, corals, sea urchins, starfish, cute baby-starfish or urchin (?? can live in the ‘room’ doesn’t need to be dragged into the aquarium)
Now I just need more money to buy a bigger aquarium….
I find it easier to fish by paying attention to the sounds. After im reeling in, whenever i hear the splashing sound i just let go until i hear the sound again, which means the fish has stopped fighting. Then i start reeling back in. Otherwise the fish will break the rod and get away. Also one can know if the rod is starting to break by paying attention to its color. The rod will get red and then redder until the fish gets away. So if i see it a bit red, i just let go until the fish stops fighting, and then i reel back in.
I think the fish you get are mostly random. However, certain things seem to be make sense: more expensive food can get you better fish while cheaper food might just get you junk, but there are certain foods that will get you specific fishes (like apple, coconut, banana…). I have tried many cupcakes and not gotten any cupcake fish yet. It seems to me that this works pretty much like the mystery boxes, you might have to open 100 before you get the item you are looking for… And 99 other you werent.

Btw.. you can’t have more than 5 starfish (applies to other items also, I’d guess). Sucks when you have to return the catch, and won’t get the bait back…

Hey, when you try to get a seahorse, does it have to be a homegrown carrot for bait? Or can you use a storebought one?
Okay, food DOES matter, it gives you more chance of getting a certain fish. Haven’t you guys noticed that with the cheap food you get junk, then with the more expensive foods you don’t? Also the question is, how many cheap foods have you used, and how many expensive foods have you used? Can you really compare the outcome of the both if you haven’t? It’s like saying I used a cupcake and caught a junk item, it doesn’t mean it’s 100% sure you’re going to get a junk item.

Hey guys, What bait should I use to get a Strawberry donutfish or a Dogfish? I tried the straberry donut 15 times, and I tried the bone (100 Coins) 10 times and I only got some wheels, boots, seaweeds, urchins, and all that stuff but the Strawberry Donutfish and the Dogfish. As far as I am concerned, expensive food give you more chances for getting nicer fish, but sometimes it looks random.

I’ve seen that picture before. It was posted a while back so that is probably why it’s missing some fish. In fact, if you look at the URL closely, it includes 2009/06/ which indicates 2009 June.
But how is this possible, when the fishing feature was released in July? Maybe the person who posted this picture is a hacker and got the images in advance. That’s happened before.
At least one other website, http://youon9.com has done something like this. Check it out if you must, but be warned, the site bombards you with advertisements that you must click away.

A while ago in pet society, while i was fishing i used a 2000 coin cake ( which usually get squid ) but this time i caught something different a “Macaroon Fish” It wasn’t “macaron” ( macaron is a wrong spelling, its actually macaroon)
So there you have it folks =) hope this tip helps to all those macaroon fish lover out there.
Oh and BTW, I hope Pet Soc. releases newer fish like grapefish or broccolifish. Maybe even cucumberfish

i just got one now! got so uch! i got 24 macaroons. but i caught a double now with just a straw berry.
Well just this morning i caught another macaroon fish ( i hate these now i have like 3 of these ). And yes there are other baits you can use to catch these pink fishies. First one is 2000 coin birthday cake (this is how i got my first macaroonfish ) Second, you can use, blueberry cupcake. Others say you can also use ‘bread’. I tried like 4 breads to catch my macaroonfish.

Macaroon fish are very easy to catch if you’re patient enough.
BTW this was the last fish i needed to catch to get all of the fish ( including red demekin goldfish ).
Oh to others who do not yet know what is a “red demekin goldfish” Its last weeks new fish. You can use milk to catch it

Readers have reported that you can catch the Red Salmon with a carrot or a pear. The Mummyfish was a Halloween fish and is not available any more.
you should have used the halloween cake for bait cuz i caught a jack-o-lantern fish with it. not its not in stores

you can use a homegrown halloween lolly or a homegrown pumpkin to get a jack-o-lantern fish

To get different rods you must catch a certain number of fish.
For example to get bamboo rod you must catch 500 fish.
