Yippee! Just spent a fun morning fishing in Pet Society. My zen approach is really working:
- Click to reel fish in
- Let go when fish struggles
- Click again when fish is calm
The fish will struggle 3-4 times. For more complete instructions, view my previous post.
What keeps this activity interesting—and frustrating—is not knowing which type of bait will hook which type of fish. As my friend Ruth says, it’s a bit like the mystery boxes. “You might have to open 100 before you get the item you are looking for.” I’ve gotten four starfish already and am aching for other types of sea life. I did, however, get a cute Puppyfish, using the white bone as bait.
It would be cool if the game designers placed some rare or expensive items in the pond—for example, rainbow poo, golden poo, star beret, diamond ring. This would be a nice surprise for many of us who haven’t been lucky enough to produce our own shiny poo!
Pet Society Fish List
Here’s a running list of Fish and Bait which I’ve compiled, thanks to readers and friends. As you can see, there seems to be very little rhyme or reason to this. More expensive items do not necessarily lead to better fish. A whole pizza (120 coins) only hooked a little Starfish while a coconut half (10 coins) got an Altum Angelfish. A coconut half also yielded a broken bike wheel. Like so many things in Pet Society, luck plays a role.
Color Codes:
This color denotes either Pro Fishing Gear or Fish Biscuit is required.
This color means the fish was a cash item limited to a certain holiday.
Things left in white are free, i.e. cheapos like me can catch them!

What about the new fishes? Like the Shamrockfish that can be caught with shamrock cupcake and/ or drink… which is gone now… and the new 10 easter fish? including the green eggfish which you can catch with the yellow flowers cupcake, the green flowers cupcake, and the spring flowers sponge cake.. which will not disappear after easter
or the bread fish that can be caught.. using bread? please update the list!! please!!!

I think some fish are attracted to certain bait like de puppyfish with the bone, but in general I’ve had very different results than you:
sea urchin onion
coral loaf of bread
conch fish yellow ribbon cupcaske
clown fish strawberrie cupcake.
and so on…
I caught a Bluegill with some popcorn.
I caught a paddlefish with cauliflower.
angel fish – apple, cheese
shell – cheese
paddlefish – leek, onion
sardine – onion
shrimp – onion
star doll – onion
I caught shrimp with milk.
stal doll – onion x2
I got coral a few times from strawberries
It’s very hard to get a carp and a seaweed. Strawberry donut fish is also hard, but finally I get one. How do you get a carp and seaweed easily?

I think some fish can be caught with any bait. They’re called “Common Fish”. And other fish can be caught with certain baits.

I think it doesn’t matter what type of food you use. Except for the rare fish, you have a chance of getting everything with any of the food. So might as well use the cheapest food(apple or carrot) if you’re interested in the regular ones. I caught lots of different fish(squid, crab, shrimp, angelfish, clown fish, etc) while looking for the applefish.

i have caught all the different fish for the applefish it took me ten times to catch with an apple, for the sea horse it took me at least 9 times with a carrot and the donut fish it took me seven times with the pink donut this fishes are hard to catch but still i luckily catch all of them, yey

I know my coconut fish was caught with a homegrown coconut … but have been trying to get the applefish with shop bought apples and so far have caught the Silver Arowana, a squid, a carp, seaweed, a can, a tire and a star fish.

Anyway, apple,puppy,coconut and sweetheart fish are probably the rarest i think.

Are you sure that you need a melon to catch a melonfish? Are you sure its not a Watermelon? Because I just spent 550 on 11 Melons, and did not get a melonfish. Help, anyone?
Hello… I caught various types of fishes and all junks with cheap baits..apple–>all junks, silver arowana, carp, squid, crab, conch shell, baby starfish doll, starfish, clownfish, bluegill, flounder, frontosa, applefish, paddlefish, sardine, seaweed, coral, message in bottle…but for dogfish it has to be bone, and donutfish it has tobe strawberry donut. So don’t waste coins for expensive baits, just buy about 50 apples and 50 corns, happy fishing…

yo, i have caught all the different fish for the applefish it took me ten times to catch with an apple, for the sea horse it took me at least 9 times with a carrot and the donut fish it took me seven times with the pink donut this fishes are hard to catch but still i luckily catch all of them, yey
I was playing Pet Society when I decided I’d put all the fruits/vegetables I already had in my invetory and I’d take my cross-dressing pet out to fish. That’s what I got :

Leek (4) -> Old Boot, Coral, Bike Wheel, Squid [I never got one, and now I get two...]

Seahorse is with carrots. It took me 10 tries to catch one. I recommened to save up on money and then go on a fishing spree!
Spotted Bass has no classification of what baitto use so go find he lamb fish or something like that.

In order to get the home-grown cupcake, you must plant a cupcake tree in your garden. Unfortunately, when you buy the seeds at the garden store, there’s no way to know that the tree will be a cupcake tree or a banana, apple, orange or coconut tree. It’s by chance.

While exploring the unusual land of the Pet Society Pond, I discovered a new fish (which isn’t on your list).
1.) I caught a cool, unique Rayfish using a Chilled Cranberry Juice & a Pretzel.
2.) I CAUGHT THE LIONFISH! I think now everyone is wondering: “What could be the bait to this amazing fish?” Well, the answer is right before you: A Yellow Ribbon Cupcake found in the foodshop.
But sometimes, it’s rAnDom. So if you used the Yellow Ribbon Cupcake and caught nothing, sorry.

yeah I noticed that too, (the comment above), but the black ghost knifefish that I caught doesn’t glow, and I just got it with the rare steak.
I’ve been trying awhile now for the lionfish and rayfish but have had no luck..
oh and I just caught a pretzel fish with the pretzel. It took a LOT of tries but I finally got it, hope you have better luck !

Pet society needs to put some new food in the food store that will be for catching and stop having them associated with apple/bannana/stawberry etc. that way the probabilities of getting the previous fish stay the same with the old fish…
I mean the odds of catching a new fish with an apple keep getting lower as they add more fish to the apples potential…
they could add fruit like nectarine, carton of blueberries, potato, tomato, asparagus, plum, raspberry, celery, kiwi slice, lime….they could transfer some of their already existing fish to the new foods.

Congrats on catching the strawberry shortcake fish! A lot of people think it’s one of the cutest fish in the pond. As for the birthday cake fish, another reader just informed me that she used at least 10 birthday cakes to get it. 10 x 2,000 coins = 20,000 coins. Too much!

Three readers here confirmed that they got the teddyfish using a home-grown pet drake. I have not tried it myself, as I love my pet drake and would not sacrifice it for a fish.

1. If you caught a fish (or item) that you dislike, refresh the page IMMEDIATELY and you will get your bait back. The fish (or item) will SADLY disappear.
2. (Not confirmed) If you position your cursor at the left eye of your pet, you will get a “higher-class” fish.
These aren’t actually cheats or hacks or whatever, but they still kinda work. These are “legal” tips. Right, PS Anonymous?

Example, You want to get the Pretzel Fish, Instead of buying lots of Pretzels in the food shop, Buy no more than one. Why? ‘Cause everytime you get fishes or things that is not the Pretzel Fish or something you don’t really like, INSTEAD OF CLICKING THE CHECK BUTTON, REFRESH THE PAGE. That enables you to get your pretzel back and use it again in the pond.:D

No, but there is the “Dogfish,” that looks very much like a small shark. (See picture above.)
Technically, Dogfish are a member of the shark family, so… Yes! There is a shark in Pet Society, just… Not any BIG ones like people might be thinking.
Also, I caught a Chestnutfish a few minutes ago using a homegrown chestnut. Though that cake sounds like the better bait.

. , I supose many of you have heard about the different fishing rods, so I will tell you how to get the four different rods available in Pet Society
1.-Bamboo rod: You must fish 500 fishes
2.-Basic rod: You must fish 1000 fishes
3.-Pink rod: You must fish 1500 fishes
4.-Gold rod: You must fish 2000 fihes
I think it’s not so hard to get at least one of this rods. Good luck!

I always get excited about new fishes in this list, but it’s nearly always a dissapointment, when it says that I must wear some gear from Cash Shop or special fish bate.
I don’t really have that much IRL money, so I could pay to get virtual fishes.

Some fishes don’t really need a specific bait to be caught (like Carp and Clownfish). This also applies to garbages and decors if caught. But some really need a specific bait (like Applefish and Puppyfish), so they can’t be caught with any other baits.
Can someone please edit this page to categorize the list?

Is the Chestnut fish a special fish (needs a specific bait) or a normal fish?
Yes, I realize that a lot of these fish can be caught with pretty much anything. But when the pond was first released (in July 2009), none of us knew back then that that would be the case. Most of us thought that specific bait led to specific fish, especially since a few, such as the Puppyfish, really do require specific bait. So the list was categorized in this manner, and continued that way. And the list grew and grew because Playfish kept releasing more fish.
Some day, maybe I will change it, but that would require a lot more time than I have. I’d rather spend the time exploring new topics in Pet Society and celebrating the myriad joys of the game.

Iazuka, it isnt that easy to catch rare fish. You just have to be patient! I caught my orange fish after like 6 or 7 homegrown oranges, and I had a really hard time getting the coconut fish. But I remained patient and got them! So dont get mad, you will get them after a couple of more tries!

hey guys?………i think catching the 5 rare fish (colecanth, masked butterfly fish, long bill fish, flying fish, and mola mola) while wearing the gear is very random……u can catch them with any bait…………i caught them all with apples and they came one after the other…..i went to buy hot dogs and i caught them all again……wish i can send them to you guys

i keep catching the pink heart fish with the gumdrops. if you don’t have that fish yet, try using those as bait!
Rainbow fish! I used the red gumdrop as bait, and had the fishing gear on.
Theres this BIG yellow/green/blueish fish called Mahi Mahi that I just caught with a yellow gumdrop and the fishing gear on.

The Mont Blanc cake was from an autumn event. It is not available anymore. And the gumdrops are Christmas Food, so I guess you can get the festive fish with them!

Hi! I just gotta tell you something. Thanks so much for this guide. It’s real, but here are some additional things I’d like to add. There are other baits that can catch these various fishes. Most of them are caught by apple. Specifically, here they are:
Paradise Fish – Espresso
Clown Knifefish – Apple
Mosquitofish – Strawberry, Apple
Macaronfish – Either Apple from Food Shop or Home-Grown Apple
Red Salmon – Apple
Sea Anemone – Pizza Slice, Corn
Seahorse – Carrot, Leek, Apple
Dogfish – Apple, Leek
African Butterflyfish – Apple (Yay! Better than Halloween Lolly etc etc! THIS IS TRUE!)
Silver Arowana – Apple
So, don’t waste your money buying expensive bait and stuff. All you need is an apple, which cost 5 coins only. Yay!
